Ways to Save Money on Your Grocery Bill

We all have to buy groceries, but many families are starting to budget the amount they spend. For instance, if you save $20 a month on groceries, that is more than $200 in savings per year. Here are some simple strategies that will help you save.

  • Plan your shopping list carefully. Look through your refrigerator and pantry to see what you need on a regular basis. This lets you look for sales and buy products in bulk.
  • Cut back on convenience foods. Try not to buy things like packaged salads or pre-cut fruits and vegetables. You are paying for a small convenience.
  • Use coupons. If you find that you buy some name-brand foods regularly, start clipping coupons for them. Otherwise, generic foods are often comparable in quality and content, and are usually less expensive. Keep an eye out for “double coupon” days.
  • Check different stores. You may find as much as a 10-15 percent difference on identical products. Research which store has the best deal. With a little discipline, you will not only save money, but you and your family might even end up eating healthier, too.
